Staging is more than just painting the walls and decorating the house.

Get rid of clutter. Everywhere from the floors to the walls, the kitchen cupboards to the bathrooms should be clutter-free. Clutter is everything from family photos and collectables to piles of bills on your desk and school papers on the kitchen counter. Keeping your home neat and clutter-free makes it easier for you to show your house without a great deal of work before each potential buyer comes through. Also, to potential buyers, your home look like you have a great deal of storage since there is no clutter.

Keep your floors clean. Buyers want to see sparkling clean floors and stain free carpets. Have your carpeting shampooed before putting your house on the market.

Make your beds. Unmade beds can detract a potential buyer from seeing how large the bedroom is or how great the closet space is. Have your beds look comfy by using white or neutral and clean bedding.

Put a bowl of fruit on the kitchen counter or a vase of flowers on the dining room table. These small touches will make your home look welcoming.
